ART Spotlight Article: Martial arts expert helped by ART.

Dear Dr. Leahy;
The purpose of this letter is to let you know that I have recently been receiving ART treatment from Dr. Bryan Murray in Toronto, Canada and wish to report tremendous success. I have been training in the Martial Arts for the past eight and a half years and currently hold a first degree black belt in traditional Asian Weaponry and a second degree black belt in Karate.

My second degree ranking is recent and I believe would not have happened without the assistance of Dr. Murray and ART. During the preparation phases last July for my karate examinations, I sustained a low back injury which led me to seek out a chiropractor. Dr. Murray was recommended by an acquaintance but I was unaware that he used ART, nor even what it was. He discovered that my low back injury was related to a knee problem in that I sustained a torn meniscus three years ago (large amount of scar tissue was confirmed by MRI.) I also had undergone two episodes of surgery for varicose veins about fifteen years ago, (multiple ligations followed by bilateral stripping of the saphenous veins.) The result was a lot of scar tissue in my legs which in turn, contributed to problems with the pelvis and low back. I have also had a long-standing kyphosis which is part of the total picture.

After six weeks of ART treatments, in spite of some residual back pain, I experienced a significant change in my legs and mobility levels. Ideally, it might have been best to gear down with my Karate training, but since I had decided to attempt the September Board examinations, it was not an option to cut back. Without Dr. Murray's expertise and support through the ART, I believe it would have been physically impossible to continue, let alone to succeed at the Board Exams.

As with many athletic endeavors, it takes a team approach to produce individual successes. My own determination along with the support of my Sensei were a large part of the picture. Dr. Murray and ART played another very important role and must be acknowledged. I therefore, wish to thank you for your part in developing ART and in providing a training program for other practitioners to pass on the benefits of this technique.

I am currently continuing with ART with an added focus on my upper extremities. ART, the associated stretching exercises and Dr. Murray's expertise have given me the confidence to tackle the correction of my spinal curvature. I look forward to reporting further successes in the future. Enclosed is a photograph taken about four weeks after commencing ART.

Sincerely, Liz Woods
